New, wider theme!
I've updated this site's theme- wait, scrap that. I've completely replaced the old, aging theme with a new one based on Framework. Just like Vision Express, Framework allowed me to finish the theme "in about an hour", simply copying what CSS was needed from the old theme with a fair bit of poking with Firebug. To quote @berkes, "I can hardly believe there ever was a time I did CSS-ing without #firebug. How on earth?" I am inclined to agree.
Anyway, Framework is a great theme to build on - thanks andregriffin!
Site has moved!
I've moved the site over to our spanking new FreeBSD server, Galvatron. While we sort out our domains and get our company site moved over, this site will temporarily reside at paul.leafish.net. It'll move back eventually. Edit: all is resolved now. Galvatron: we have go.
We're still in the early stages of getting the server set up, but it promises all manner of juicy goodness like shared scripts, shared Drupal installs, super-quick caching, and automated setup Bash scripts... we'll probably post some info on how we got everything sorted once its ready.
The bright side of life
What a crappy weekend last weekend was. Our new dedicated server didn't come back up after some updates and a reboot, and the support staff didn't get round to checking it out for four days. Luckily, we were in the process of testing the waters with this machine and host, and so our production sites were still up and running on our existing server. It came back up, so we didn't lose any work or other data.
The downer is, the lack of support response has kind of forced us to start looking elsewhere. Four or five e-mails were sent, but there was no response. Nor did we receive a reply when we asked for information as to why the server had hung. Lets face it, if your box isn't on the network with sshd running, there's not much you can do to try and fix a problem when its on the other side of the Atlantic.
To top that off, I got home last Saturday evening to find a whopping crack in the screen of my laptop. I have no idea how it got there - was using it the night before, was out all Saturday, and came back to find it cracked. The only explanation I can think of is that something heavy had fallen on the lid, which isn't the toughest of plastics to protect the delicate screen directly underneath it.
Looks like my new TFT monitor, external hard drive and sound card will have to wait. I have a new laptop screen to pay for first...
Horny Dog for hire
A good friend of ours is currently looking for freelance design and graphics work. Steve Pick has worked for several years in the games industry, has racked up loads of experience with Illustrator, Photoshop, 3DS Max & Flash and is the god of all things pixel. He has recently produced artwork for eJay-branded music software, a design for Tim Wright's Cold Storage project and print-published tutorials for Computer Arts magazine.
Check out Steve's many goings on:
- Horny Dog - online portfolio and journal.
- Mini-portfolio - a summarized portfolio.
- Daisy Jones - his ongoing animation project.
- pickassoreborn - artwork posted to deviantART.
Impressed? Get in touch with Steve.
Morning Mr Vader
This morning I get up (on my day off no less) at 8:30am and decide to do some shopping. As I was leaving my house, I heard a loud knock at the door. I'm always wary of early callers (its either City Link Cocksucking Couriers or the fuzz), but this time I'm surprised: its only Darth muthafucking Vader at the door. He's come to discuss the One True Way of the Dark Side, and he has lots of pamphlets and things.
Anyway, I'm not a religious man, so I had to turn him away. I did get a snap of me with him, though. Apologies for the crap photo, my camera-phone is rubbish.
