The bright side of life
What a crappy weekend last weekend was. Our new dedicated server didn't come back up after some updates and a reboot, and the support staff didn't get round to checking it out for four days. Luckily, we were in the process of testing the waters with this machine and host, and so our production sites were still up and running on our existing server. It came back up, so we didn't lose any work or other data.
The downer is, the lack of support response has kind of forced us to start looking elsewhere. Four or five e-mails were sent, but there was no response. Nor did we receive a reply when we asked for information as to why the server had hung. Lets face it, if your box isn't on the network with sshd running, there's not much you can do to try and fix a problem when its on the other side of the Atlantic.
To top that off, I got home last Saturday evening to find a whopping crack in the screen of my laptop. I have no idea how it got there - was using it the night before, was out all Saturday, and came back to find it cracked. The only explanation I can think of is that something heavy had fallen on the lid, which isn't the toughest of plastics to protect the delicate screen directly underneath it.
Looks like my new TFT monitor, external hard drive and sound card will have to wait. I have a new laptop sceen to pay for first...

yeah
that suxors. Looking for a new hosting company is torture. I said in the Drupal forums a couple days ago (i'm looking as well)...
I'm so jaded about hosting companies I wouldn't be surprised if they dig me up in China
Get it?!? Jade! China! erm. My girlfriend didn't get it.
I had a crappy week too. Today I thought of making a new site called Wayward Blues where I just blogged about how bad everything was! Running on Drupal of course.
I've just got two quotes
I've just got two quotes to get my screen repaired from two local PC places. £500 from one (£450 for screen, £50 labour) and £350-400 from another (£250-300 for screen, £100 labour!). Considering I only spent £560 on the thing, getting it repaired doesn't seem the most economical of solutions...
Plus, we've signed up for another rackspace provider for a new server, and we still haven't heard from them in 48 hours. Grr.
